Lay Me to Waste
Robert Warrington
The drums of copperhead and the guitars of Javolenus seemed to combine so well for me last month I’ve been unable to resist bringing them back together for this month’s offering.
He took a pill
He was trying to kill
The dirty great emptiness
He took a walk
It was there in the park
The dirty great emptiness
At every turn
He tried to outrun
The dirty great emptiness
With his resolve
He tried to solve
The dirty great emptiness
With his box of tricks
He tried to fix
The dirty great emptiness
Taking a stroll
He tried to control
The dirty great emptiness
With doublethink
He tried to sink
The dirty great emptiness
He looked inside
Behind his pride
The dirty great emptiness
Waving a sword
It came on board
The dirty great emptiness
He laid it to waste
And still he can taste
The dirty great emptiness
He pulled up a chair
It was sitting right there
The dirty great emptiness
It even got bolder
It sat on his shoulder
The dirty great emptiness
Like some bloodhound
It followed him round
The dirty great emptiness
Wherever he went
It followed his scent
The dirty great emptiness
He thought he gave it the slip
It was just a blip
The dirty great emptiness
He tried God
He tried too hard
The dirty great emptiness
He looked in the mirror
And saw to his horror
The dirty great emptiness
He flew to the stars
And there it was
The dirty great emptiness
He came back stunned
Only to find
The dirty great emptiness
He took some off the top
Nothing could stop
The dirty great emptiness
He took a pill
He was trying to kill
The dirty great emptiness
He took a walk
It was there in the park
The dirty great emptiness
At every turn
He tried to outrun
The dirty great emptiness
With his resolve
He tried to solve
The dirty great emptiness
With his box of tricks
He tried to fix
The dirty great emptiness
Taking a stroll
He tried to control
The dirty great emptiness
With doublethink
He tried to sink
The dirty great emptiness
He looked inside
Behind his pride
The dirty great emptiness
Waving a sword

The dirty great emptiness
He laid it to waste
And still he can taste
The dirty great emptiness
