Think you all know what’s coming now. The explaining what I tried, how I failed and why I still love the result. :)
A couple weeks ago when I got my assignment I was pretty happy. Kirkoid is a part of ccmixter for 17 years now and has plenty of great remixes to work with. One of my all-time-favourites for the seasons is this one. I picked 15 remixes for a closer look and put them aside. Wanted to create a classic house track before, but picked some Ableton’s Drift package - and started drifting.
Once that drifted song was in a good shape, I wanted to add some vocals. Well - and why not looking if something from Kirkoid’s songs matches? Clicked the first link from my collection. Bamn. Matched perfectly. I had some lofi elements in my song already. Removed them. The where not needed anymore. Some harsh filtering removed everything from “Watch that sound” I did not need. What was left, fitted like a charm.
Then I broke my clavicle during a bike ride. Luckily my helmet (rest in peace) did his job perfectly and prevented my from becoming retarded or even worse. Even more luckily (well, kind of…) , the clavicle broke into four pieces that had to be rearrange chirurgicaly - otherwise my arm had been fixated for about six weeks…
But something was still missing in the song. The vocal part “watch that sound” did not sound that perfect after a couple of times listening anymore. I came Snowflake. Usually I try to be strict with Secret Mixters and keep to the assigned person. But I could not resists and add a couple words from “In the In-between” quite silent in the background. Floating around and glueing everything together.
Two days ago I rendered my remix a last time. Thaught it was ready to be uploaded. Well, I realized that a open hi-hat was at the wrong place. :) Changed that yesterday evening - and here we are.
So what’s left to say? Happy birthday ccMixter! You are a great community. And a big shout out to the admin team, that keeps everything up and running!
