I Saw the Future
Ivan Chew
First ever pairing with Stefan/(Jeff) and happily so. He’s got loads of stems to choose from. With the Resilience theme in mind, I looked at his early uploads and wondered which of his work might have stood the test of time, so to speak. The words in his 2014 ‘Sound of my Dreams’ caught my attention:
last night - i saw my future
this night - i fight it back
Its synth track’s chord progression, the pensive vocals and words, guitar strums, seemed very apt for current times.
I didn’t want to change Jeff’s original feel too much (that sad/forlorn ‘minor’ key vibe) but I also wanted the chorus to convey a sense of uplift and hope. Hence, added a new set of chords for the chorus. Also used vocal stems (“Bianca Stücker”) from another of Jeff’s uploads for aural contrast. Finally added drums, bass, supporting synths and guitar, retuned some parts of the stems to fit the new chord progression.
As a proverb goes: When elephants dance, the grass gets trampled. Though it’s also true that when the roots are deep, grass grows again.
Been a while! Hello!
